Date Night at Home with Tyson & Redbox

Date night is typically for mom and dad. But, in our single-parent household, I feel it is so important to teach my son how to treat a woman. Equally important is time. It is one of the most valuable gifts we as parents can give. Mostly, because we can’t get time back, no matter how bad we want to. One way we like to spend time together is having a Mother/Son date night every third Saturday of the month. We like to make it special by getting all dressed up and really making an effort to have fun together. I started doing this with my son when he was around seven years old. We’ve done everything from miniature golf to having a picnic in the park. When we first started, I taught my son how to be a gentleman. The memories I have of my Grandpa treating my Grandma with the utmost respect in every circumstance really stuck in my mind. So, teaching him to open doors and pull out chairs for women was really important to me. Now, six years later and he is a 13-year-old true gentleman. I no longer have to teach him or remind him to do any of these things, because he does it on his own. Not because he has to, but because he loves doing it.

Lately, I have been running out of ideas for a date night. My son really likes to go out when we have date night. But I figured, this is the perfect chance for me to show him that we don’t always have to go somewhere for it to be a date. Thank goodness I ran into Tyson’s Products ‘Winter to Go’ offer with Redbox at Walmart. The offer is simple. First, buy any two participating State Fair®, Jimmy Dean®, or Tyson products from your nearest Walmart.

Next, take a picture of your receipt and upload it to

And that is it! You will get rewarded with two promo codes, each valid for a free 1-night DVD rental from Redbox.* Woohoo! Who doesn’t love free movie night?

That, coupled with yummy breakfast food makes our date complete! Our favorite thing to have for dinner is breakfast, so I purchased some Jimmy Dean Hot and Spicy Sausage Biscuits, which my son is obsessed with. They are so easy and convenient! Great for breakfast or just an on the go snack! I also picked up some Jimmy Dean Hash Browns Meat Lovers. My son has Autism, so we always attempt to get him to try new foods and these stuffed hash browns were a hit! The crisping sleeve ensures that your hash browns come out crispy – even in the microwave! They won me over at “stuffed.”  They are so yummy! The combo of the crispy outside and the cheesy inside made me fall in love! If you have picky eaters, I can almost bet they will love these products. Again, all participating products can be found at

The weather outside is chilly and perfect for cuddling up with a movie and dinner at home! This is going to be a perfect date night! What is your typical date night? Is staying in an option for you?
