It’s the first day of SUMMER! YAY!
Summer, of course is everybody’s favorite time of year, right? School is out, BBQ’s, camping, the beach. All the fun stuff we look forward to all year long has ARRIVED! 🙂 My son has Autism and we continually have to come up with ways to break the monotony of his strict schedule.
If it were up to my son, he would stay inside and play on his Ipad all Summer. This is what we do NOT want because with my son it is all about routine. So, once we start doing something one way, we have to keep doing it that way to avoid any meltdowns. So this summer, we are making sure to change his routine, and what better way is there than taking him to be active, release energy and have fun? Not only is it important for him, but it is important for us as parents as well. too! It’s a great and easy way to be active!
We really enjoy our neighborhood park, so we’ve decided to make it a point to go there at least twice weekly. There is a swimming pool, tennis court, playground and even a nice pond to feed the ducks. We live in Florida, if you do too, than you know how hot it is right now. The sun heats up the toys and it’s almost impossible to play. So we plan to go during the evening or early in the morning. And during the peak hours when it is too hot,we will just take advantage of their awesome swimming pool. This is very exciting for him as well as for us as parents. He had an amazing day today. He laughed, played, got dirty, and got plenty of exercise.
So, what are you doing on the first day of Summer? It’s also Father’s day today ( Happy Father’s Day!!) , so grab the kids, grab Dad and head to your local playground! Get out there and make memories! Have fun! Be active! The best part about this activity is that it is FREE. Unless, of course you go get ice cream afterwards 😉
I hope you enjoy your first day of summer!
Let me know how you & your little ones are enjoying their local park in the comments below!
